Abstract

Objective: To analyze and synthesize the available scientific evidence on the effectiveness of resources and technologies for peripheral venous vasodilation in adults. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases between December 2025 and February 2026, including studies published from 2015 to 2025. The search followed the PICO strategy, and data analysis was performed systematically, with critical appraisal of the methodological quality of the included studies using JBI instruments compatible with each study design, in order to identify trends and knowledge gaps. Results: Fourteen studies were included, demonstrating that interventions such as a sphygmomanometer with controlled pressure, thermal applications (heat and cold), patient positioning in the supine position, the Valsalva maneuver, and technological devices (Veinplicity® and Vacuderm®) promote a significant increase in venous diameter and improve first-attempt puncture success rates. Conclusion: The evidence indicates potentially useful strategies to optimize peripheral venous puncture; however, there is heterogeneity across interventions, comparators, and outcomes. The incorporation of these approaches into clinical practice should consider the care context, the methodological quality of the studies, and the need for standardized protocols.
