ODONTO +: CAPACITANDO CIRURGIÕES-DENTISTAS PARA O ATENDIMENTO DE PESSOAS VIVENDO COM O VÍRUS DA IMUNODEFICIÊNCIA HUMANA E A SÍNDROME DA IMUNODEFICIÊNCIA ADQUIRIDA NO SISTEMA ÚNICO DE SAÚDE

Abstract

Oral health is a crucial aspect of maintaining the systemic health of individuals living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). However, these individuals still face significant barriers in accessing dental care, such as stigma, prejudice, and lack of preparedness among some healthcare professionals. To overcome these obstacles, investing in the training of oral health team professionals using educational technologies is essential. Thus, the aim was to develop a prototype application aimed at dentists working in Primary Health Care, to provide training to optimize dental care for People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) in the Brazilian Public Health System. This involves the development of a prototype mobile application for the ongoing education of dentists, to optimize the reception and care of PLWHA. The process consisted of three stages: a) literature review, where scientific studies and related applications were identified; b) content analysis, where thematic areas to be addressed in the application were defined; and c) development of the high-fidelity prototype using the Marvel platform. Based on the literature review, the most relevant requirements and content regarding dental treatment for PLWHA were selected. These included topics such as addressing stigma and discrimination, communication and biomedical barriers, and confidentiality preservation. The application development took into consideration criteria such as information reliability, usability, connectivity, educational complementarity, evaluations, and recommendations. The prototype follows the high-fidelity prototyping model, featuring an accessible design based on official documents. The screens were designed to ensure functionality on both Android and iOS systems, following Nielsen's heuristics to ensure the usability of the application. These results underscore the importance of mobile devices in the healthcare field and the need for improvements in internet infrastructure within Brazilian healthcare institutions. Oral health plays a fundamental role in the quality of life of PLWHA, and ongoing education through applications and other digital platforms can serve as a powerful tool in overcoming barriers and ensuring the right to access to healthcare.
